Bill Martin Jr and Eric Carle’s “Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see?” definitely helped little gosling fix his colours. A simple and effective book, it shows one animal on each double page, brightly colored (brown, red, yellow, blue, green, purple, white, black) and imagines a repetitive dialogue to identify the image that follows. Very catchy, fun and instructive little book for the youngest ones attempting to master the main colours. 

In the beginning, he outright ignored the colour part, whilst loving the rhyme and playing around with the animal sounds. He eventually came around to adding the colours to the poem and then started using them in making associations with colours of things around him. We’ve also used the rhyme in observation and vocabulary activities in different contexts: “Baby, baby, what do you see?”.. “See birds… see trees… see lilies…. See pigeons…see house…..” (in the park).
